Description

Ordering Recommendation: This test detects antibodies to Aspergillus, Coccidioides, and Histoplasma by complement fixation and Blastomyces by immunoassay. Not recommended for the diagnosis of fungal infection of the central nervous system. For Coccidioides only, refer to test Coccidioides Antibodies, CSF (Sendout) [RCCOCC].

Test Algorithm: If Blastomyces antibodies are equivocal or positive by immunoassay, then Blastomyces Antibody by ID, CSF [RCBLID] will be added at additional charge.

Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Refrigerate CSF.

Stability: Refrigerated (preferred): 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles); Ambient: 48 hours.

Unacceptable Conditions: Submission of body fluids other than CSF. Contaminated, hemolyzed, xanthochromic, or severely lipemic specimens.
