General Information

Lab Name
Anti DFS70
Lab Code
ADFS70
Description

Used as a follow-up to samples that are ANA by IFA positive (homogenous or homogenous/speckled), but are negative/indeterminate for all specific ANA related antibodies.

The presence of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) and antibodies to extractable nuclear antigens (ENA) is a hallmark of systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD). Indirect immunofluorescence (IIFA) testing on HEP2 cells is recommended as the ANA screening test of choice by the American College of Rheumatology. Up to 20% of healthy adults have been reported to have a positive ANA test. The DFS IIFA pattern has been reported in 33% of ANA-positive healthy individuals, but not in ANA-positive SARD patients. IIFA patterns which indicate the presence of anti-DFS70 antibodies should be assayed for the detection of anti-DFS70 antibodies. However, a positive anti-DFS70 does not rule out the presence of SARD.
