- Description
NOTE: This test is temporarily unavailable as of 03/25/2020.
The detection of viable Cytomegalovirus (CMV) prior to visible cytopathic effect (CPE) in conventional tube tissue culture. Specimens are inoculated into two 48-well plates containing a monolayer of a receptive cell line. At day 1 and 2 post inoculation, one plate is stained with a monoclonal antibody to CMV, and then reacted with fluorescent-conjugated goat anti-mouse immunoglobulin G. The cells are examined for characteristic nuclear staining which indicates the presence of adenovirus growth. Results are reported as CYTOMEGALOVIRUS DETECTED or Not detected.
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
This code is only to be used if a viral culture has been already ordered.
The correct order codes are:
Herpes Group Culture and CMV Rapid Detection [VCCMVR] for samples requiring herpes group virus culture only or
Viral Culture and Rapid CMV Detection [VCSCMV] for samples that also require respiratory virus culture.
