1 mL CSF collected in a sterile collection container
- CSF to be transferred under sterile conditions by the Microbiology or Molecular Microbiology lab to a dedicated Delve Bio tube with stabilization buffer.
- Approval Required
- Microbiology/Virology Faculty approval required.
- Handling Instructions
Outside Laboratories: Due to special collection requirements, clients should arrange for testing directly with Delve Bio.
- Quantity
-
Requested: 1 mL CSF transferred to a Delve Bio sample tube
Minimum: 0.5 mL CSF transferred to a Delve Bio sample tube
Processing
- Receiving Instructions
PSPS: Samples must be aliquoted using aseptic technique. Transport the original CSF container and a new Delve Bio kit to Microbiology laboratory for assistance with sample transfer. If samples are unable to be processed immediately, refrigerate the unopened CSF sample.
Microbiology/Molecular Microbiology Lab:
- A Delve Bio kit is required. Kits are available in PSPS Sendouts.
- Using the materials provided in the kit, transfer 1 mL CSF to the Delve Bio sample tube under sterile conditions (refer to full instructions linked below).
- Delve Bio Sample Transfer Kit Instructions
- 1mL of CSF is recommended; if less than 1mL is available for transfer, contact Delve at (844) 221-7423 for further instruction.
- Ensure that the Sunquest label does not cover the expiration date on the Delve tube.
- Once samples have been transferred, return the sample and kit to the Sendouts bench. Once transferred to the Delve Tube, store samples at ambient temperature.
- If unable to transfer samples within 6 hours, unopened CSF may be stored refrigerated for up to 7 days (or up to 90 days at -20°C).
Sendouts:
- Delve Bio Test: Delve Detect CSF (DN01)
- CSF must be transferred to a Delve Bio sample tube or the order will be rejected.
- Contact CAST for assistance with online ordering. Delve Detect orders are considered urgent and should be expedited as much as possible.
- CAST requires the Delve Tube ID (DNT#####) and Manifest ID (DM#####) to place the order. This information is found on the bottom of the barcode label included in the kit.
- Once the order has been placed, CAST will provide an electronic requisition to be be sent with the sample.
- Package sample and TRF in the provided kit. Send only one sample per kit.
- Delve Bio Kit Sample Transfer Kit Instructions.
- Ship samples Monday through Friday using the provided Delve Bio kit.
- Notify CAST of an outgoing order via Teams, phone, or HC1 Task. Results should be expedited.
Stability (once transferred to the Delve Bio Sample tube): Ambient (preferred): 1 month; Refrigerated: 2 months; Frozen (-20°C): 90 days.
Stability (Prior to Transfer to Delve Bio Sample Tube): Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen (-20°C): 90 days; Ambient: 6 hours. No more than 2 freeze/thaw cycles.
Reject Due To: Gross hemolysis (>200mg/dl), insufficient volume (<0.5mL), sample not in Delve Tube, leaking sample.
Sample Transfer Kits are provided by Delve Bio: Call (844) 221-7423 or email: support@delve.bio.
