Description

Ordering Recommendation: May aid in the diagnosis of chikungunya viral infection during acute phase of disease (>5 days after symptom onset). Testing should also be considered for other arthropod-borne viruses with similar symptomology based on clinical presentation and travel history.

Collection Note: Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens. Specimens must be plainly marked as "acute" or "convalescent."

0.79 IV or less Negative: No significant level of Chikungunya IgG antibody detected.
0.80-1.09 IV Equivocal: Questionable presence of Chikungunya IgG antibody detected. Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.10 IV or greater Positive: Chikungunya IgG antibody detected; suggests current or past infection.

Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge sample and transfer serum/plasma to a separate plastic vial within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate serum/plasma.

Stability: Refrigerated (preferred): 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year; Ambient: 48 hours. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Unacceptable Conditions: Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens.
