The assay is used as part of the CDC HIV Diagnostic testing algorithm for samples that were reactive in the 4th generation HIV Ab/Ag Combo screening assay.

Preferred: 7 mL Blood in PEARL TOP [(EDTA) (PPT)] Tube
Also Acceptable: Lavender Top (EDTA) or Red Top Tube
Whole blood may be stored at 2 to 8 °C. Plasma and serum samples may be stored at 2 to 8 °C for up to 7 days.
Pearl Top: Centrifuge and refrigerate entire spun tube.
Lavender Top: Centrifuge, aliquot plasma into polypropylene tube and refrigerate.
Red Top: Centrifuge, aliquot serum into polypropylene tube and refrigerate.
