Amylase, Urine (Sendout)

• Timed Urine: Collect urine for 24 hours in a timed urine collection container with no preservatives. Refrigerate during collection.
• Random Urine: Collect urine in a screw-cap urine container.

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens containing acetic acid, concentrated HCl, nitric acid or sodium carbonate.

Outside Laboratories:

• Timed Specimen:
  • Measure and record total volume.
  • Mix well and aliquot 4 mL urine into a separate, screw-cap vial. Refrigerate urine.
  • Document the total volume and collection interval on the requisition.
• Random Specimen: Aliquot urine into a separate, screw-cap vial and refrigerate. Indicate "random" collection on the requisition.

Stability: Refrigerated (Preferred): 10 days; Frozen: 3 weeks; Ambient: 2 days.

Timed Specimen:

• Measure and record total volume.
• Mix well and aliquot 4 mL urine into a separate, screw-cap vial. Refrigerate urine.
• Forward the requisition with total volume and collection interval to Sendouts.

Random Specimen:

• Aliquot urine into a separate, screw-cap vial and refrigerate.
