Description

Test Information: The purpose of the test is to monitor patients after transplant for the presence and level of antibodies to the donor’s HLA antigens. The test is semi-quantitative.

Ordering Note: A call-back number must be included for all STAT orders. Enter contact information in the Epic order comments or on the Bloodworks Northwest Requisition.

Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories:

  • Transport whole blood samples at room temperature (serum from a red top tube is also accepted). Samples must be received by Bloodworks Northwest within 10 days of collection.
  • A completed Bloodworks Northwest Immunogenetics/HLA Requisition must accompany all orders. In the Billing section, indicate "Bill to UWMC DLMP."

Processing

Receiving Instructions

Store and transport samples at room temperature.

  • Send sample(s) with a copy of the Bloodworks Northwest HLA Requisition or the EPIC requisition (must clearly indicate the Bloodworks NW test to be performed).
  • Package sample(s) with the associated requisition in a biohazard bag (one patient per bag).
    • Orders received with multiple patient samples/requisitions in the same biohazard bag will be rejected by Bloodworks NW.
  • STAT orders should be transported to Bloodworks Northwest as received.
    • Providers may coordinate STAT testing with a Bloodworks Lead Technical Coordinator, who will contact SPS to request expedited transport of a sample. Samples may be sent to Bloodworks 24/7.
  • Send routine samples via scheduled UW DLMP Courier or Delivery Express shipments.
  • UW-MT: Samples are sent by SPS/Cross Hospital.
  • HMC: Store samples in the room temp "H2PSBC" storage bin while awaiting shipment. Samples are sent by HMC Sendouts.
