Nicotine, continine, and anabasine are extracted from urine with organic solvent and measured using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in full scan mode. Alkaloids that are detected above the limit of detection (variable for each analyte) are reported.

Interpretation

Method

Label specimen with specimen label "RANDURN" and Refrigerate. Send the extra labels [LTOX1,LTOX2] to the Tox Bench.

Note: UNICOT requires 6 mL minimum. If urine sample with less than 9 mL needs to be shared with UDRSS, send the whole sample to HMC Stat Toxicology, together with all aliquot labels. Do not aliquot. Toxicology technologist will aliquot and load sample on automation line.
