Beginning September 2023, two different orders are available to clinicians for ordering urine protein/creatinine ratios.
UPCRAT (this entry) should be used for TIMED urines only. The Epic order requires the clinician to enter a time interval for the collection (12 or 24 hours).
A separate order, Protein/Creatinine Ratio, Random Urine [UPCRTR], should be used for random urine collections.
NOTE: The urine albumin/creatinine ratio is preferred to the urine protein/creatinine ratio as a marker of renal injury. The reference for the reference range is: DS Jacobs, WR DeMott, DK Oxley, Jacobs and DeMott Laboratory Test Handbook, 5th Ed., Lexi-Comp, Hudson, OH (2001).

Until September 2023, clinicians were able to choose "Random" as the interval for UPCRAT. Some of these orders are Pending/Future, so it is possible for you to receive UPCRAT with a Random interval. If so:- DO NOT relog.
- Choose UR (Random Urine) as the container type.To process samples
