The UW Clinical Virology Laboratory in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology incorporates the FDA approved Roche cobas® BKV Quantitative assay for the detection of BK polyomavirus (BKV) using real-time PCR amplification.
The lower limit of detection, LoD (the minimum virus level that gives a positive result in 95% of replicates), is 12.2 IU/mL, and the lower limit of quantitation (LLoQ) is 200 IU/mL.
A conversion factor of 1.0 Log10 IU/mL is equivalent to 1.0 Log10 copies/mL.
The Roche cobas® BKV assay uses primers specific for the BKV VP2 region and the BKV small t-antigen region.
For Blood see BK Virus by PCR Quantitative [BKVQN].
For Tissue Biopsy, Bone Marrow, Swab, or Cellular fluid (e.g. BAL or Washing), see BK Virus by PCR Qualitative [BKVQL].
