The APTIMA Trichomonas vaginalis Assay is an in vitro qualitative nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) for the detection of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) from Trichomonas vaginalis to aid in the diagnosis of trichomoniasis using the PANTHER System.

Note: Please indicate specimen type with all orders.
- Endocervical: Collect specimen with APTIMA Unisex Collection Kit (narrow-tipped blue swab into white tube with purple lettering). Specimens submitted in the APTIMA Multitest Collection Kit (orange tube with pink swab) will be accepted and performed with a suboptimal comment attached to the result.
- Vaginal: Collect specimen using the APTIMA Multitest Collection Kit (orange tube with pink swab). Clinician-collected and patient-collected in a healthcare facility setting are approved. Specimens submitted in the APTIMA Unisex Collection Kit (narrow-tipped blue swab into white tube with purple lettering) will be accepted and performed with a suboptimal comment attached to the result.
- Urine: Utilize disposable pipette included in the APTIMA Urine Collection Kit to transfer 2 mL of unpreserved urine into the yellow tube.
- Male Urethra: This specimen type is suboptimal for this test. Either the APTIMA Multitest Collection Kit (orange tube with pink swab) or APTIMA Unisex Collection Kit (narrow-tipped blue swab into white tube with purple lettering) will be performed with a suboptimal comment attached to the result.
- Liquid Pap Specimen: Transfer PreservCyt Solution liquid Pap specimen into the APTIMA Specimen Transfer tube (green label)
Unacceptable specimens: Catheterized urine, frozen urine, unpreserved urine >24 hours after collection, gel-based culture swab, Eswab, or any APTIMA tube containing the white cleaning swab. Conjunctival samples are not performed by UW Laboratory Medicine: send to Mayo ordered as Chlamydia trachomatis by NAT, Conjunctival (Sendout) [RCHLAM].
