FHCC HLA typing for potential HSCT recipient and donor(s)

Test Information: Placeholder for samples sent to Fred Hutch Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory (CIL). CIL provides HLA typing, crossmatching, and PRA studies for potential stem cell transplant recipients and donors.

Ordering Note: Bloodworks Northwest Immunogenetics/HLA Lab is the preferred performing lab for HLA typing and PRA studies for identifying community platelet donors.

Collect: 10 mL blood in RED TOP and 30 mL blood in GREEN TOP (Sodium Heparin*) tubes

• *If sodium heparin blood collection tubes are unavailable, lithium heparin or ACD solution A can be used. Please contact the laboratory at 206-606-7700 for further instruction.

Alternate Specimens: Buccal Swabs or Saliva. Contact Fred Hutch CIL Lab at (206) 606-7700 to obtain collection kits.

Hold and transport whole blood samples at ambient temperature.

• FH CIL accepts samples Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. Samples sent on Fridays must be received before 2:30 p.m.
• The lab is closed on weekends and holidays. Samples collected after hours, weekends, or holidays can be stored at room temperature and delivered to CIL the next working day.
• Notify the CIL of incoming STAT orders by calling (206) 606-7700.

Stability: It is preferred for samples to arrive at FH CIL within 24 hours of collection. Samples are stable up to 3 days after collection.
