Interpretation: Low concentrations in the blood plasma are indicative of nutritional deficiency. Concentrations <1 mcg/L are considered significantly diminished. Marginally low levels probably represent nutritional deficiency that should be corrected.
- Interferences and Limitations
Cautions: Testing of nonfasting specimens or the use of dietary vitamin B2 supplementation can result in elevated plasma vitamin B2 concentrations.

- 6 mL Blood in GREEN top (Sodium or Lithium Heparin) tube
- Wrap sample in foil to protect from light.
- Also Accepted: Lime green (sodium or lithium heparin) plasma gel separator tube

Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge sample and transfer plasma to an amber (light-protected) vial within 2 hours of collection. Freeze plasma at -20°C while awaiting shipment. Transport on dry ice.
Stability: Frozen: 28 days; Refrigerated: 28 days; Ambient: 72 hours.
Reject Due To: Gross hemolysis, gross lipemia, not light-protected. Gross icterus okay.

Processing
- Receiving Instructions
Centrifuge sample and transfer plasma to an amber light-protected vial (Mayo Supply T915) within 2 hours of collection. Freeze plasma at -20°C.
- Note: Whole blood samples that are received without foil/not light-protected may still be processed for testing, as long as they are centrifuged and the plasma transferred to a light-protected aliquot within 2 hours of blood draw.
