If patient is undergoing serial monitoring of Glucagon levels, rebaselining by requesting that this sample also be run on the previous assay method for comparison purposes is recommended. Collection Instructions:

  1. Pre-chill a LAVENDER TOP (EDTA) tube by placing on wet ice.
  2. Draw 5 mL blood into the pre-chilled tube.
  3. After drawing, place tube back into wet ice and transport immediately to the laboratory.
Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge sample in a refrigerated centrifuge. Immediately after centrifugation, aliquot plasma to a separate plastic vial and freeze plasma at -20°C. Transport on dry ice.

Stability: Frozen: 90 days; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Ambient: Unacceptable.

Reject Due To: Gross hemolysis. Gross lipemia and gross icterus: Acceptable.
