Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge specimen at room temperature. Transfer supernatant to a separate plastic vial and freeze at -20°C. Indicate the specimen source on the requisition.

Stability, CSF: Frozen (preferred): 30 days; Refrigerated: 7 days; Ambient: 24 hours.

Stability, Pericardial/Peritoneal/Pleural Fluid: Frozen (preferred): 30 days; Refrigerated: 7 days; Ambient: Unacceptable.

Unacceptable Conditions: Turbid specimens, whole blood, bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL).

Receiving Instructions

Specimen Processing: Centrifuge fluid and transfer supernatant to a separate plastic vial. Freeze at -20°C.
