Hematofluorometry
Preferred: 7 mL blood in ROYAL BLUE (Na2 EDTA) TOP tube.
Also acceptable: LAVENDER or GREEN TOP
Unacceptable: Spun Gel separator tubes
If only 1 tube is received, the specimen MUST be at Room Temperature to aliquot for ZPPH. Mix on ROCKER for 5 minutes, then aliquot 0.5 mL whole blood into a plastic vial for ZPPH. Re-stopper the ROYAL BLUE tube for PB (lead) testing.
Refrigerate both whole blood samples after aliquoting.
If the sample is <1.0 mL, it must be shared, with PB testing occurring first at Montlake, and ZPPH testing occurring last at HMC. Rack the sample in the PB rack with a shared specimen slip.
