Mycobcaterium chimaera DNA detection by PCR is only available upon request as a reflexive test if a 3-way split ID of “Mycobacterium chimaera or Mycobacterium intracellularae or Mycobacterium paraintracellularae” is reported from tissue/fluid or a pure culture.
Results in 2-3 business days after reflex.

Shipping/Handling
*Plate/slant: should have visible growth
*Broth/positive blood bottles: must have organisms visible by stain to be acceptable for sequence analysis
UWMC/HMC: Store and send fresh tissue/fluid specimens refrigerated, if specimen storage and transport will exceed 8 hours, freeze at -20°C. Freeze all fresh tissue/fluid specimens at -20°C upon arrival in UW Molecular Microbiology.
