Genetics Sendout Transport Only

Test Information: GTRNSP (Genetics Sendout, Transport Only) refers to sendout test orders for collection and specimen transport only.

• Lab Medicine does not report or bill for testing.
• The performing bills patient insurance directly and reports are forwarded to the provider.
• May be ordered in Epic as a GTRNSP or as a LABUND with "GTRNSP" in the comments.
• Lab Medicine Resident approval is not required.

Orders must include:

• Performing Lab and Performing Lab Test Code (if applicable).
• Specimen collection information.
• Any unusual specimen processing information (short stability limit, special processing, etc.).
• A completed referral lab requisition with patient self-pay or insurance information.

Note: For GTRNSP orders on cultured cell specimens, refer to OLTG #896 for additional specimen processing information.

Maintain whole blood samples at room temperature unless otherwise indicated by the LABUND or GTRNSP instructions. Samples should be forwarded to UW-MT with a completed requisition. If a performing lab requisition did not accompany the sample, contact the ordering provider.

Note: Orders received on Cultured Cells should be sent out the same day as received in UW SPS. Notify Sendouts staff upon arrival in lab. If unable to ship same day, contact Cytogenetics (206-598-4488) for overnight storage of flasks in incubator. Cultured cell samples should be considered urgent and irreplaceable. See OLTG #896 for additional information.

Sendouts:

• Do not include Laboratory Medicine billing or results labels, or account information on the requistion. Maintain a copy of the outgoing requisition for scanning.
• Ship sample(s) and requisition to the performing lab.

FHCC:

• Orders collected at FHCC will be sent out by FHCC SPS.
• Orders collected at FHCC UW-NW locations should be forwarded to UW-MT for send out.
• If samples are sent out directly by FHCC Clinical Teams, the order must be received in Sunquest for result-entry in Epic.
  • FHCC Clinics must notify the lab that they have processed and sent a GTRNSP order directly. The specimen type and performing lab should also be communicated to the lab for proper documentation.
  • FHCC SPS or UW-NW SPS: Receive the order in Sunquest and route the default container. Complete the result-at-entry questions with the specimen type and performing lab information.
  • Use Sunquest SMART Function to track the CID to the USENT spot.
