Preferred: 4 mL blood in LIME GREEN TOP PST tube

Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in GOLD TOP SST, RED TOP, ORANGE TOP SST

Testosterone by LC-MS/MS

Preferred: 4 mL blood in RED TOP

Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in LAVENDER TOP

Pediatric: RED TOP MICROTAINER

Handling Instructions

The Laboratory MUST process testosterone specimens within 24 hours of blood collection.

Requested: 1 mL serum/plasma
Minimum: 0.5 mL serum/plasma

Processing

Receiving Instructions

Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma for testosterone testing within 24 hours.

Refrigerate serum.
