This assay detects the presence of a cryoglobulin, and if present, provides a semi-quantitative estimate of the amount. Cryoglobulins are associated with a variety of clinical conditions including: myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, mixed essential cryoglobulinemia, systemic lupus erythematosus, infectious mononucleosis, cytomegalovirus infections, acute viral hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, post streptococcal glomerulonephritis, infective endocarditis, leprosy, kalaazar, and tropical splenomegaly syndrome.

15 mL blood in RED TOP tube. Specimens must be maintained at 37°C

Handling Instructions

Keep ALL tubes at 37°C and transport to lab as IMMEDIATELY. Suggest transporting specimens under your arm with specimen tubes securely enclosed in a specimen transport bag. Specimens will be rejected if clotted. This test is NOT drawn on Blood draw rounds.

Receiving Instructions

Specimens MUST be kept at 37°C until received by COAG. COAG tech will process and return specimen to Refrigerator in SPS. Do Not Freeze.

An extra label prints LIMRED. Send these labels with the specimen to Immunology. DO NOT make extra aliquot.

HMC Instructions: Specimens MUST be kept at 37°C until received by SPS. SPS will put "unclotted" specimen in 37°C waterbath to clot for 1-2 hours to prevent Cryofibrinogen from being trapped in clot. After clotting is complete, SPS will centrifuge and aliquot serum.
