Guidelines recommend universal prenatal screening for vaginal and rectal Group B streptococcal colonization of all pregnant women at 35- 37 weeks gestation.
Collecting both vaginal and rectal specimens increases the culture yield substantially compared with sampling the cervix or vagina alone.
Culture does NOT include susceptibility testing. Please indicate if susceptibility testing is required. Positive cultures will be held for 3 days after the final report is released if susceptibility testing needs to be added.
