Preferred: 4 mL blood in LIME GREEN PST tube
Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in Orange RST, Gold SST, Red Top, and Green Top tube
Pediatric: 1 full LIME Green Microtainer
Unacceptable: Gray Top

Offsite Clinic or Other Locations
Preferred: 4 mL blood in Gold SST tube
Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in Orange RST, Gold SST, Red Top, and Green Top tube
Pediatric: 1 full LIME Green Microtainer
Unacceptable: Gray Top
Quantity: Requested: 0.5 mL serum/plasma
Minimum: 0.1 mL serum/plasma

Receiving Instructions: Centrifuge and separate serum/plasma from cells within 2 hours. Deliver specimen directly to Lab.
Outside and Remote Locations: Spin and separate serum/plasma from cells within 2 hours. Aliquot in brown tube or wrap in foil to protect from light. Refrigerate.
Note: Direct bilirubin cannot be added on to a specimen more than 16 hours after it has already gone through the automation line and stored.
