Offsite Clinic or Other Locations:
Preferred: 4 mL blood in GOLD SST tube
Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in ORANGE RST, LIME GREEN PST, RED TOP or GREEN TOP tube
Pediatric: 1 Full LIME GREEN MICROTAINER
Handling Instructions: Note: Direct bilirubin cannot be added on to a specimen more than 16 hours after it has already gone through the automation line and stored.
Quantity: Requested: 0.5mL serum/plasma
Minimum: 0.1 mL serum/plasma

Receiving Instructions: SPS: Spin and separate serum/plasma from cells within 2 hours. Deliver specimen directly to lab.
Outside and Remote Locations: Spin and separate serum/plasma from cells within 2 hours. Aliquot in brown tube or wrap in foil to protect from light. Refrigerate.
