Description: The presence of IgA endomysial autoantibodies by indirect immunofluorescence is suggestive of active gluten sensitive enteropathies such as celiac disease. Results are primarily useful for diagnosis; they may also be used for monitoring response to treatment with a gluten-free diet, but results are semi-quantitative.

Indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) using INOVA monkey esophagus tissue to detect IgA autoantibodies.

Interferences and Limitations

Anti-smooth muscle antibodies may obscure endomysial staining. The test cannot be used for patients with IgA deficiency.
