Test Description: Natera's Horizon tests provide carrier screening using next-generation sequencing. Carrier screening looks for the presence of recessive conditions in the mother and father that, if combined, may lead to disease in the offspring.

Ordering Requirements: A completed Natera Horizon Requisition must accompany the sample. For orders completed in the Natera electronic portal, providers should print a copy of the order for the lab.

Ordering Note: This test may also be ordered as Genetics Sendout Transport Only [GTRNSP] if specified by the ordering provider. Provider must include patient insurance information with the Natera order.
Sendouts:
- Send the sample in the provided Natera kit.
- Ensure that there are two matching identifiers on the sample label and Natera requisition. Note that Sunquest labels do not contain the date of birth, so the Natera requisition should include the MRN and/or specimen ID (accession) number.
- Samples may be shipped on Friday for Saturday Delivery.
Stability: Ambient: Preferred. If shipment is delayed, samples may be refrigerated for up to 7 days unless Tay-Sachs enzyme testing is requested (for TSE, samples must be shipped same-day).
