Collect random urine in a sterile collection container. First-morning collection is preferred.
Expedite transport to the lab. The sample is stable at ambient temperature for one hour.

Outside Laboratories: Transfer 4 mL urine (minimum 1 mL) to a screw-capped urine aliquot. Freeze sample at -20°C while awaiting shipment. Transport on dry ice.
Stability: Frozen (preferred): 1 week; Refrigerated: 1 week; Ambient: 1 hour.
Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens in preservative.
