Useful For: This test measures chitotriosidase enzyme activity and can be used to monitor disease progression in patients with certain lysosomal storage disorders such as Gaucher disease and Acid sphingomyelinase deficiency.
Test Information: Chitotriosidase enzyme activity is measured by using a 4-methylumbelliferyl (4-MU) substrate.

Outside Laboratories:
- Centrifuge sample and aliquot 1 mL plasma to a separate plastic vial. Freeze plasma at -70°C while awaiting shipment. Transport on dry ice.
Stability (Plasma): Frozen, -70°C (preferred): 2 years; Frozen, -20°C: Acceptable; Refrigerated: 24 hours; Ambient: 24 hours.
