Description

This test is performed between the hours of 7 AM and 3:30 PM at HMC only. The wet mount is examined only for the presence of Trichomonas. Outside of these hours, the wet mount is not examined and a Trichomonas Nucleic Acid test [TRICAD] will be performed at the next scheduled routine run. If Trichomonas is not seen on the wet mount, a Trichomonas Nucleic Acid test [TRICAD] is reflexed at additional cost.

Ordering & Collection

Specimen Type: Vaginal
Collection: Both a swab in saline for wet mount examination AND an APTIMA Vaginal Swab Collection must be submitted:
1) Place vaginal swab in a tube with 0.5 mL saline.
AND
2) Collect vaginal specimen using the APTIMA Vaginal Swab Specimen Collection Kit.
Handling Instructions: Send to Microbiology lab at room temperature ASAP.
Note: Wet mount specimens older than 1 hour will be rejected.
Quantity: Requested: Swab in 0.5 mL saline and APTIMA Vaginal Swab Collection

Processing

Receiving Instructions: Trichomonas Wet Mount test is peformed between 7 AM and 3:30 PM at HMC. Outside of these hours only Trichomonas Nucleic Acid Test [TRICAD] is performed on swab collected using the APTIMA Vaginal Swab Specimen Collection Kit.
