Description

Reflexive Testing Information: Initial test performed is urine protein electrophoresis. If initial screening results indicate the possibility of abnormal protein spikes, additional testing for characterization will be performed at an additional charge. If the sample is a timed collection and Bence Jones protein is detected, Bence Jones protein quanitfication will be performed at an additional charge.

Specimen Type: Urine
Collection: RANDOM or 24 HOUR URINE (Refrigerate 24 hr Urine during collection)
Unacceptable: Any urine with preservative on collection container
Handling Instructions: Caution: Collections of less than 10 mL will be cancelled.
Quantity: requested: 50 mL urine
minimum: 25 mL urine

Processing

Processing: Refrigerate urine aliquot.
If 24 hour Urine, mix, measure and record Total Volume.
At Login, Enter TV & Interval, enter "RAND" if random urine
SPS, 2 extra labels print, "LIMBJ1, LIMBJ2"; Send labels with the specimen to Immunology. DO NOT make extra aliquots, Immunology has to concentrate the URINE and uses the extra labels for the new concentrated specimen. Also make copy of request form for Immunology.
