Description: STAT requests require approval from Lab Med Resident or Lab Director. HMC: STAT requests performed daily until 3:30pm. After 3:30pm, HMC STAT request is performed by UW-MT. If test is positive, a quantitative titer is run for an additional fee (CCAFSQ)

UW-MT: screening test run from 07:00 to 23:00. Tests received after 23:00 will wait until the next morning. For positive tests, quantititive titer is run on dayshift only 8:00-14:00.

Collection: SPINAL FLUID
Handling Instructions: Send CSF to lab @ room temperature within 2 hours of collection; refrigerate if delayed.
Note: other CSF tests may require immediate transport.
Quantity: Requested: 1.0 mL CSF supernate
Minimum: 0.5 mL CSF supernate

Receiving Instructions: Test should be performed on supernate CSF (after centrifugation). This test is more sensitive than an India Ink preparation.
