Description

Test Information: This test includes 36 common mitochondrial DNA mutations in 17 mitochondrial genes. These mutations have been associated with Cardiomyopathy, CPEO, Deafness and/or diabetes, Kearns-Sayre Syndrome, Leigh/Leigh-like, LHON, MELAS, MERRF, Mitochondrial DNA multiple deletions syndrome, NARP, Pearson Marrow/Pancreas Syndrome. For a full list of mutations included in this test, refer to the Baylor Genetics website (link below).

Ordering Requirements: To order this test, complete the Baylor Genetics Mitochondrial Requisition. On page 4 of 10, under Mitochondrial (mtDNA) Mutation Screens, select test 2010: Advanced mtDNA Point Mutations and Deletions by Massively Parallel Sequencing (BCM-MitomeNGSā„ ).

Outside Laboratories:

  • A completed Baylor Genetics Mitochondrial Requisition must accompany all orders. On the UW requisition, write #659: Mitochondrial DNA Panel under "Other Requests."
  • Store and transport whole blood at room temperature. Samples >2 days old should be refrigerated. Expedite transport to UW-MT to ensure that samples arrive at Baylor within stability.

Stability: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 7 days; Frozen: Unacceptable.
