- Protein Electrophoresis Panel, Urine
- Description
Reflexive Testing Information: Initial test performed is urine protein electrophoresis. If initial screening results indicate the possibility of abnormal protein spikes, additional testing for characterization will be performed at an additional charge. If the sample is a timed collection and Bence Jones protein is detected, Bence Jones protein quanitfication will be performed at an additional charge. For random urine, see Protein Electrophoresis Reflexive Panel, Random Urine [UELPPR].

24 HOUR URINE (Refrigerate 24 hr Urine during collection)
Unacceptable: Any urine with preservative on collection container - Handling Instructions
Specimen Volume Notes:
- 25 mL is the minimum sample volume required in order to be able to perform UELP and UIFIX on a sample that has a negative protein dipstick. Because urine protein concentration is not known at the time of collection, 25 mL is requested for all specimens.
- 10 mL is the minimum that can be concentrated in order to perform a UELP when the sample has a negative protein dipstick. Specimens with less than 10 mL will be cancelled.
- For samples between 10 mL and 25 mL with a positive protein concentration on a dipstick, testing for both UELP and UIFIX will be attempted.
- Quantity
-
requested: 50 mL urine
minimum: 25 mL urine (see "Specimen Volume Notes")
