Test Information: The aHUS TMA Funtional Panel includes 18 functional and biomarker tests implicated in thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA), which include complement-mediated hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) and Upshaw-Schulman syndrome, a hereditary form of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).
- Tests Included: C3, C3c, C4, C5, FD, FB, Ba, Bb, Properdin levels, Soluble C5b-9 (sC5b-9), FI and FH levels, CH50, APFA, FHAA, FBAA, C3b Deposition, Fluid Phase Activity-IFE.
Ordering Note: Do not order concurrently with C3 Glomerulopathy Complement Panel (Sendout) [RC3GCP]. All tests in the aHUS (complement-mediated TMA) panel are included in the more comprehensive C3 Glomerulopathy Complement Panel.
Ordering Requirements:
- Pre-approved for outpatient UW Medicine Renal Clinics (includes UW-MT, HMC). All other orders require LMR approval.
- For orders placed in Epic, a separate MORL requisition is not required.

Processing
- Receiving Instructions
Centrifuge samples. Transfer plasma and serum to separate plastic vials and freeze at -70°C.
Sendouts:
- Order UIMORL Test: aHUS-FP.
- Label samples clearly as "serum" or "plasma."
- For orders placed in Epic, a separate UIMORL requisition is not required. Print the full Epic requisition, ensuring that all pages are included. Current lab results (requested information from MORL) will print on the second page. CAST billing stickers are not required.
- For orders not placed in Epic, the provider or care team must complete a MORL requisition for inclusion with the sample. Affix the CAST Billing sticker to the requisition to prevent accessioning delays.
- Ship FedEx Priority Overnight, Monday through Thursday only, with sufficient dry ice to ensure that samples remain frozen throughout transport.
- Package samples as close to FedEx pickup as possible to ensure that samples remain frozen upon arrival at UIMORL.
- Samples that arrive thawed will be rejected.
Stability: Frozen (-70°C): Required; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Ambient: Unacceptable.
