Description

The OraQuick ADVANCE Rapid HIV-1/2 test is a single-use qualitative immunoassay for the rapid detection of antibodies to Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) and type 2 (HIV-2). All rapid HIV testing is considered preliminary and is confirmed by the routine ARCHITECT HIV Ag/Ab Combo Assay for the Qualitative detection of HIV-1 p24 antigen or HIV-1/HIV-2 antibodies. The rapid test is less sensitive than the routine test in detecting acute HIV and has an increased false positive rate.

PEHIVP is exclusively for Harborview Medical Center (HMC) patients when rapid HIV 1&2 antibody testing is required for Post-Exposure HIV testing on Source Patients.

For Post Exposure HIV testing on an Exposed Employee, refer to Lab Mnemonic: HVAGAB. Post exposure samples on exposed employee(s) must be coded and submitted on an employee health requisition.

If rapid HIV 1&2 antibody testing is required for other reasons (for example, non-UW employee first responders) refer to Lab Mnemonic: HIVQAP.

For rapid HIV 1&2 antibody testing for UWMC, refer to Lab Mnemonic: HIVRWC.
