Description

The UW Clinical Virology Laboratory in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology incorporates the modified FDA approved Panther Fusion® assay for the detection and differentiation of Human parainfluenza viruses type 1, type 2 , type 3 and type 4 using real-time PCR.

The assays targets the hemagglutinin neuraminidase gene for each virus. Results are reported as Detected or NOT detected and a semi-qualitative result is provided by reporting the PCR Cycle threshold (Ct) value for positive specimens.
