Toxoplasma by PCR, Whole Blood (Sendout)

Useful For: Detection of Toxoplasma gondii DNA in whole blood samples.

Ordering Guidance: For Toxoplasma PCR testing on fluid or paraffin-embedded tissue specimens, refer to Toxoplasma DNA detection by PCR [TOXDNA].

Collection: 5 mL whole blood in LAVENDER TOP (EDTA) tube

• Also Accepted: YELLOW TOP ACD tube

Collection Restrictions:

• Collect samples Monday through Thursday only. Do not draw on Friday or holidays.
• Samples collected on Thursday must be sent out same-day. Expedite transport to the lab.
  
  • Samples collected at offsite locations must arrive at UW-MT by 13:00.
  • Send samples via Delivery Express and include "STAT, ATTN: SENDOUTS" on the outside of the package to ensure prompt processing.

Outside Laboratories:

• Store and transport whole blood at ambient temperature. Expedite transport; samples must arrive at Remington lab within 48 hours of collection. Allow a day for transport from UW Montlake to Remington Lab.

Stability: Ambient (required): 48 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable.

Store and transport whole blood at ambient temperature (20° to 25°C).

• Expedite processing; notify Sendouts staff immediately upon receipt of sample.

• Include comment: "No serum available; run with disclaimer."
• Send samples via FedEx Priority Overnight, Monday through Thursday only. Saturday delivery is not available for this lab.
