Venous blood collected into a balanced heparinized syringe such as the 2 mL Radiometer PicoTM or 3 mL Smiths Portex Pro-Vent syringes.

Also acceptable:  5 mL Venous blood in UNSPUN, UNOPENED GREEN TOP  or 4 mL Venous blood in UNSPUN, UNOPENED LIME GREEN TOP.
Carboxyhemoglobin is stable up to 8 hours at room temperature and up to 48 hours at 0 - 4°C.

Handling Instructions
Needles must be removed from syringes and replaced with caps before sending to the lab.  No air bubbles. Transport to Lab Immediately.
Note:  The Laboratory MUST assay specimen collected in a syringe within 30 minutes of blood collection.
