3 mL or 5 mL BLUE TOP (CITRATE) tube
Pediatric draws: (At UW-MT ONLY) Contact the lab at 598-6242 and ask for a baby draw tube for coagulation testing.
- Handling Instructions
For Heparin monitoring on inpatients, specimen MUST be processed within 1 hour.
UW-MT/HMC: all other PTT requests, process within 6 hours of blood collection.
UW-NW: Specimens must be processed within 4 hours of blood collection.

Processing
- Receiving Instructions
Take specimen to COAG.
Outside Laboratory: Centrifuge for 10 minutes, remove plasma & re-spin plasma for another 10 minutes. Decant & Freeze plasma (minimum 1.0 mL) @ -20°C to -80°C. Send Frozen on dry ice.
Stability: plasma samples frozen at -80°C are good for 1 year
