Twin cfDNA Prenatal Aneuploidy Screen (Sendout)

***Order Alert: Test discontinued as of 10/17/2023. Cell-free DNA prenatal screening for twin pregnancies is now performed by the UW Genetics Lab. Refer to CellFree DNA Prenatal Screen [PDNAS].***

PSPS: If a LABUND order for the Verifi twin screening test to Illumina is received, contact the provider to inform them that the twin assay can now be performed in UW Genetics.

• If the provider agrees to the assay being performed by UW Genetics, place an order for PDNAS using the answers provided in the LABUND.
• If the provider prefers to send out the test to Illumina, document that on the requisition, add a GSEND1 as indicated below, and forward the sample and paperwork to Sendouts.

Two 10 mL whole blood in a GLASS Streck Cell-Free DNA BCT® tube. Gently mix blood by inverting tube 8-10 times.

Unacceptable: Collection in 9 mL PLASTIC Streck Cell-Free DNA BCT® tube (effective 11/28/17)

Do not send samples via pneumatic tube system. Samples collected in Streck tubes must be walked to the laboratory.

NOTE: This screening test is now performed by the UW Genetics Lab (CellFree DNA Prenatal Screen [PDNAS]). Confirm with the provider whether the test should still be sent out to Illumina (see Test Description).

Store and ship whole blood at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze.

Sendouts:

• Contact CAST via HC1 Task to obtain a Verifi NIPT E-TRF (electronic test request form). If nearing the FedEx pickup time, follow the task with a phone call or Teams message for urgent response.
  • Outside (Non-Epic) Orders: A completed Genetics requisition is required for CAST to complete the order. Attach the requisition to the HC1 Task.
  • CAST: Enter the order in the Illumina portal using the information from Epic or on the Genetics requisition. Attach the completed E-TRF confirmation to the task and send it back to Sendouts. Notify Sendouts via phone or Teams message.
• Send samples to Illumina with a copy of E-TRF confirmation via FedEx Priority Overnight. Billing labels are not required as the electronic order is tied to the UW Illumina account.
• Saturday Delivery is available (must be indicated on the FedEx label).
