- Description
The UW LDT Respiratory virus panel follow up by quantitative real-time (RT-PCR) assay is intended to monitor positive patients who are being treated for Influenza types A and B, Metapneumovirus (MPV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Parainfluenza type 3 (PIV3) with an antiviral drug. Specimens will be accepted only from patients who tested positive within the previous month.
The following viruses are targeted:
- Influenza type A (matrix)
- Influenza type B (matrix)
- Metapneumovirus, MPV (fusion)
- Respiratory Syncytial Virus, RSV (matrix)
- Parainfluenza type 3, PIV3 (matrix)
These patients may have tested positive by REVSQT, FLUPCR, RVFQNT, FLURSV, NCVFLU viral culture, or a rapid test. The minimum virus level that gives a positive result in 95% of replicates is 1,000 copies/mL (3 log copies/mL). Result are reported as “not detected”, “positive”, or quantity in copies/mL if result is >1000 copies/mL.
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
