Method: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), This service is performed pursuant to an agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.
Reference Range: See individual components

Specimen Type: Blood, Spinal Fluid
Collection: Preferred: 3 mL blood in LAVENDER TOP tube
Also Acceptable: RED TOP, GOLD SST or PEARL PPT or 1 mL Spinal Fluid.
Unacceptable: GREEN TOP
Handling Instructions: Note: Separate specimens MUST be submitted when both Viral Culture or Serology and PCR testing are ordered.
Quantity: requested: 1 mL plasma/CSF/serum
minimum: 0.5 mL plasma/CSF/serum

Processing: Blood: Centrifuge tube within 8 hours of collection & aliquot serum/plasma. Freeze @ -20°C

CSF: Freeze within 2 hours of collection or ship immediately @ 4°C. If CSF has cells, centrifuge & aliquot clear CSF-Freeze @ -20°C

Outside Laboratories: Ship with Dry Ice, do not freeze thaw. If no freezer or dry ice available, ship serum/plasma immediately at 4°C. Ship time not to exceed 48 hours. If tube not received within 48 hours of draw time, sample will be rejected.
