Collect ONE of the following:
- Swabs in 1.5 mL VTM
- 3 mL blood in LAVENDER, RED, SST, PPT tube
- 1 mL Spinal Fluid
- 1 mL BAL
Unacceptable: GREEN TOP, Extracted nucleic acid from an outside laboratory.

minimum: 1 mL plasma/serum/CSF/BAL or swabs in 1 mL VTM
Processing
- Processing
Blood: Centrifuge tube within 24 hours of collection & aliquot serum/plasma. Freeze at -20°C.
CSF: Freeze within 2 hours of collection or ship immediately at 4°C. If CSF has cells, centrifuge & aliquot clear CSF-Freeze at -20°C.
Outside Laboratory: If no freezer available, ship at 4°C. Ship time not to exceed 48 hrs. Do not freeze/thaw. If frozen, ship with Dry Ice.
