3 mL blood in LAVENDER TOP, RED TOP, GOLD SST or PEARL PPT tube. Also Acceptable: 1 mL Spinal Fluid. Unacceptable: GREEN TOP

Note: Separate specimens MUST be submitted when both Viral Culture or Serology and PCR testing are ordered.

Blood: Spin tube within 24 hours of collection & aliquot serum/plasma. Freeze at -20°CIf tube not processed within 48 hours, sample will be rejected. CSF: Freeze within 2 hours of collection or ship immediately at 4°C. If CSF has cells, centrifuge & aliquot clear CSF. Freeze at -20°C.Clear non cellular fluid is also acceptable. Outside Laboratories: If no freezer available, ship at 4°C. Ship time not to exceed 48 hours. Do not freeze/thaw. If frozen, ship with Dry Ice
